The Dictionary Project

Every fall, the Chamber of Commerce has the opportunity to participate in the Dictionary Project, a program "to assist all students in becoming good writers, active readers, creative thinkers, and resourceful learners by providing them with their own personal dictionary. Educators see third grade as the dividing line between learning to read and reading to learn" so every year, the Chamber gifts dictionaries to our local 3rd graders at the Delta North Elementary School. This year we also gave dictionaries to 3rd graders enrolled in home schooling programs. In January, we will check back with the school to make sure third graders returning to in-school learning are prepared with their dictionary.

Classes from the third grade wrote us some thank you letters. They were fun to read! We loved to see the messages from the children about how much they like their dictionaries and how they use them in class.
